Paver packs round upward after cutting waste. The aggregate result distinguishes compacted geometric volume from the additional volume you choose to order. Bedding volume has no automatic compaction allowance.

The formula
Pack coverage can describe mixed-size paving patterns without assuming every piece has the same face size. The paver allowance affects packs only. A separate order multiplier adjusts base volume, while bedding uses its entered layer depth directly.
Worked example
For 20 m² of paving, 5% cutting allowance gives 21 m². Packs covering 10 m² require three packs. A 15 cm base has a compacted volume of 3 m³; a 20% order allowance gives 3.6 m³. A 3 cm bedding layer is 0.6 m³.

Use coverage for the chosen laying pattern
Mixed-size packs can contain several units that together form a repeating pattern. Manufacturer coverage is more useful than dividing the area by one selected piece. If coverage includes nominal joints, keep that basis consistent with the design. Whole-pack purchasing can create more leftover material than the cutting allowance alone.
Layer depths need a project specification
Subgrade, drainage, traffic, climate, and the paving system influence base preparation. The example depths are inputs for arithmetic, not construction recommendations. This tool does not calculate excavation depth or prescribe drainage. Edge restraints, jointing sand, geotextile, labor, and delivery are not included in the pack subtotal. Obtain product installation guidance before ordering a complete system.

Common questions
Is bedding sand the same as jointing sand?
No. Bedding lies below the paving; jointing material fills gaps between units. The bedding result does not estimate jointing bags.
Why is base allowance separate from paver waste?
They describe different quantities: additional loose base material and extra paving coverage for cuts. One percentage should not silently control both.
