Understanding your result
Rolls are the smallest whole-piece order that covers the target. Pallets round those rolls up to complete packs. Surplus is the pallet coverage above the target including your allowance, not just above the original lawn area.

The formula
The two rounding stages describe different purchasing rules. Individual-roll cost uses the roll count; pallet cost uses complete pallets. A lower nominal price per roll in a pallet does not necessarily produce a lower total order cost.
Worked example
A 100 m² lawn with 5% extra needs 105 m². At 1 m² per roll, that is 105 rolls. With 50 rolls per pallet, three full pallets supply 150 m², leaving 45 m² above target. Individual rolls at 5 cost 525; three pallets at 225 cost 675.

- Measure the lawn area, excluding paths and planting beds.
- Enter coverage per piece, the cutting allowance, and rolls per pallet.
- Compare the two purchase totals using prices in the same currency.
Roll dimensions differ between suppliers
A roll, slab, or piece is a sales unit rather than a fixed area. If a label gives length and width, multiply them to obtain the coverage used here. Convert both dimensions to metres first. Do not assume that the pallet count or roll size from another supplier applies to the turf being ordered.
Plan the installation as well as the quantity
An area estimate cannot predict the exact cuts around curved beds or narrow strips. Adjust the allowance to a measured layout. Fresh turf also needs suitable site preparation and timely installation; ordering substantially more than required can leave unusable material. Delivery access, pallet deposits, handling, and installation work may add costs beyond the turf prices compared here.

Common questions
Can I use square feet instead?
Convert both lawn area and roll coverage to square metres before entering them. Mixing area units would give an incorrect count.
Why can pallet buying cost more?
A full-pallet rule can force the purchase of surplus rolls. Compare actual totals, not just the advertised unit discount.
