The calendar result advances by whole months with a month-end clamp, then counts the remaining days. The total and weekday results use the same exclusive or inclusive boundary you select.

The formula

Total days = end date − start date; complete weeks = floor(total days ÷ 7)

Calendar months vary in length, so the years-months-days result is calculated separately from the absolute day count. Inclusive mode adds one day after validating the entered range.

Calendar time and elapsed days answer different questions

A one-month interval can contain 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. The calendar result preserves named months, while total days measures the absolute interval.

Month-end dates are clamped to the last valid day when the corresponding date does not exist in a later month.

Weekdays are calendar weekdays

The weekday count includes Monday through Friday and excludes Saturday and Sunday.

Public holidays and local work schedules are not removed, so use the result as a calendar count rather than a business-day deadline.

What this calculation assumes

  • Dates use the Gregorian calendar at UTC midnight.
  • Weekdays mean Monday through Friday.
  • The weekday count includes the start date and excludes the end date by default. Inclusive mode counts both dates.

What to keep in mind

  • Public holidays are not excluded.
  • Times of day and time zones are not represented.
  • Legal deadlines may use jurisdiction-specific counting rules.
