Understanding your result
Calendar age counts complete months from the date of birth, then the remaining days. Total days is the difference between the two dates; complete weeks divide that number by seven and discard the remainder.
For an interval between two dates that is not a birthday, the Date Difference Calculator also counts weekdays.
The formula
The calculator finds the latest monthly anniversary on or before the calculation date, then counts the remaining days. If the birth day does not exist in that month, the anniversary is the last day of the month. Date arithmetic uses UTC midnight to avoid daylight-saving shifts.
From January 31 to March 1 in a leap year
A person born on January 31, 2024 is 0 years, 1 month, and 1 day old on March 1, 2024 using the end-of-month rule. The monthly anniversary is February 29. The total elapsed time is 30 days.

Calendar age is not a fixed number of days
Months have different lengths and leap years add a day to February. That is why dividing a day count by 365 is only an approximation of age.
This calculator keeps the calendar structure intact. A birthday on May 12 advances the year count on May 12, rather than after a fixed count of 365-day periods.
Leap-day birthdays and month ends
For a February 29 birth, this calculator treats February 28 as the anniversary in a non-leap year. A January 31 monthly anniversary similarly falls on the last day of February.
This convention makes calendar differences deterministic. Legal age rules and local birthday traditions can use different conventions, including March 1 for a leap-day birth.

- Both inputs are Gregorian calendar dates without times of day.
- Today is taken from your device’s local calendar when the calculator loads.
- A missing day of the month is clamped to that month’s final day.

- The result does not account for birth time or time zones.

- Dates before year 0100 are not supported.
Common questions
Can I calculate age on a past date?
Yes. Set the calculation date to any date on or after the birth date.
Why does the birthday countdown show zero?
The selected calculation date is the birthday, using the calculator’s month-end convention.
Does daylight saving time change the result?
No. Inputs are treated as calendar dates at UTC midnight, so a 23-hour or 25-hour local day does not change the day count.
