Understanding your result
Consecutive classes needed assumes you attend every new class. The term plan uses a fixed remaining schedule and reports whether your target is still reachable. These answer different questions, so their counts can differ.
Plan the marks needed for a course result separately with the Grade Calculator .
The formula
Every future class increases the denominator whether you attend it or miss it. Whole-class counts round upward when determining a minimum requirement. A perfect 100% cannot be recovered through new classes if recorded past absences remain.
Worked example
With 30 of 40 classes attended, attendance is 75%. If 20 classes remain and the target is 75%, you need 45 attended classes out of the final 60. That means attending at least 15 more and missing at most five of the remaining classes.
How to use this calculator
- Enter attended classes and total classes held from the same attendance record.
- Replace the example target with your institution’s requirement.
- Enter the remaining schedule to check whether recovery is possible before the term ends.
Subject-wise and overall records
Indian colleges may apply attendance rules per subject, per component, or across a programme. Calculate each required record separately. Do not average subject percentages unless every subject has the same number of sessions; adding attended counts and held counts first gives the correct combined percentage when a combined rule is actually permitted.
Check the boundary before missing a class
A displayed percentage is rounded, while the minimum class count uses the unrounded target calculation. A value that displays as 75% after rounding may still be below an exact 75% rule. Cancellations, approved attendance adjustments, and timetable changes alter the inputs, so update the plan when the underlying register changes.
Assumptions & limitations
What this calculation assumes
- All counted sessions have equal weight and the selected target is enforced on the entered record.
What to keep in mind
- No institution-specific condonation, medical leave, exam eligibility, or attendance-credit decision.
- The 75% default is not a universal rule for Indian colleges.
Common questions
Can I reach 75% if I currently have 20 out of 40?
You need 40 consecutive attended classes: (20 + 40) ÷ (40 + 40) = 75%. If fewer than 40 classes remain, that route cannot reach the target this term.
Why is the required remaining count larger than the schedule?
That is how the tool shows an impossible target for the entered term. Attending all remaining classes still leaves a shortfall.
