Converted amount with unit and interpretation
The main result includes the chosen target unit and the SI equivalent is in square meters. The table changes only the measurement scale; it does not measure a parcel or infer a shape.
To calculate area from the dimensions of a supported plane shape, use the Area Calculator and follow its own input conventions.
The formula
Multiply the supplied area by its square-meter factor, then divide by the target factor. Customary area factors square their international-foot or inch length conversions; hectares equal 10,000 m².
Verified worked example
One international acre is 43,560 square feet or 4,046.8564224 square meters. It is approximately 0.40468564224 hectares.
How to use this calculator
- Enter an area already measured or calculated.
- Choose its squared source unit and the destination area unit.
- Read the labeled equivalent, checking the international-acre convention for historical land records.
Area input conventions
An area conversion uses the square of the corresponding length factor. Because one international foot is 0.3048 meters, one square foot is 0.09290304 square meters rather than 0.3048. This calculator begins with a known area; it does not need dimensions or assume a particular room or land shape.
Interpreting converted amount with unit
The acre preset is based on the international foot. Historical land records using the U.S. survey foot need their documented survey convention and can differ slightly. A hectare is 10,000 square meters and is useful for large land areas. Negative entries are preserved for signed changes or algebraic quantities, although a physical parcel area is normally nonnegative. Unit conversion cannot establish usable floor area, boundary accuracy, or ownership of a parcel.
Assumptions & limitations
What this calculation assumes
- Customary areas use the international foot; the acre is an international acre.
What to keep in mind
- International-foot area conventions only; no cadastral survey correction or shape measurement.
Common questions
Should I enter room length and width?
No. This converter needs an area already calculated. Multiply compatible dimensions or use an area calculator first, then select its squared unit.
Why is the square-foot factor not the foot factor?
Both dimensions are converted. The factor is 0.3048 squared, which equals 0.09290304 square meters per square international foot.
Can I convert historical survey acres here?
The acre option uses the international foot. A record explicitly based on the U.S. survey foot needs its documented historical conversion rather than this preset.
